Zoology - more than a ticket to the zoo!

What is a Zoologist?

Many people imagine that a zoologist is someone who works in a zoo. Actually, Zoology is the science of studying animals - so it's a subset of Biology, and its scope is much more diverse than zoos. In fact, it is one of the most exciting areas of study, involving every imaginable kind of animal (including humans), in habitats as diverse as rainforests and oceans. You may not have realised it, but many of the nature documentaries you enjoy on TV are reporting on discoveries made by zoologists!

Zoology provides the skills and knowledge for a tremendous variety of careers in the public and private sectors. Have you thought of some of the following as careers followed by people with zoological training?
