Summer Courses

654-306 Marine Zoology    Summer 2007

Academic regulations governing the course and a course description can be found here

The course is held at Queenscliff marine station and in the local area.

In 2007 it will run from Sunday February 4 (evening) to Saturday February 10 (morning). Students are required to be in attendance at Queenscliff every day for the whole course. Accommodation and food arrangements are made for students who do not live in the area. It is not practicable to commute from Melbourne because of the need to use tides at all times of the day and night.

The accommodation and meals are expected to cost between $ 200 and $ 300 but no student will be excluded because of financial hardship in paying that amount.

Students wishing to take the subject should select it in the same way as any other third year course. The course has a strict quota because of limitations on the facilities at Queenscliff

Selection

Quota selection is made as soon as the marks for second semester subjects become available. Overall average in all second and third year subjects will be considered as well as performance in the prerequisite 654-201 Animal Diversity. The course is designed for students who have just completed second year and complements the Marine Ecology unit that follows it but all eligible students will be considered.

A list of successful students and those on a short waiting list will be linked to this page before Christmas. Students will also be notified by email and mail.

Offers

Offers must be accepted by the end of the first day the University opens in January. Places not taken up will be offered to students on the waiting list.

Please check with the university that the address listed on your record is the correct one and that your university email is functional so that you can respond by the deadline.

If you have not received a letter of offer or a letter informing you that you are on the waiting list you probably failed to make the quota. You can also check the lists on the internet to make sure your mail did not go astray.

Instructions

The webraft notice and letter of offer will contain instructions on the procedures to follow for information on travel arrangements, housing, food and what to bring to Queenscliff.

It is possible to complete all assessment requirements for this course before the start of Semester I but the deadline for submission is during Semester 1 so it can also be completed during term time.

Please direct any questions to Professor David Macmillan
